The Beech Mountain ski resort is located in the town of Beech Mountain north of Banner Elk in the northwestern North Carolina Mountains. At a peak altitude of 5500 feet it is the highest ski resort in eastern North America.
Beech Mountain ski resort has artificial snow making equipment to supplement the 80 inches of average natural snowfall each year. They have the most natural snowfall of the ski resorts in North Carolina.
Beech Mountain offers ice skating in addition to skiing and snowboarding.

Beech Mountain offers both skiing and snowboarding. Lift tickets, equipment rentals, and lessons are all available. Season passes are available for frequent skiers.
Group packages are also available for school, church, and other groups. Groups larger than the minimum group size of 15 people receive discount rates.
Beech Mountain has a large variety of available discounts and specials. For example, lift tickets are free for those over 70. Those in the military receive discounts. There are men's nights and ladies' nights. On days when school is cancelled for snow, local school children and teachers receive discounts.

Beech Mountain's mile high slopes are the highest in eastern North America. With a top elevation of 5505 feet and a bottom elevation of 4675 feet there is a 830 feet vertical drop. The longest run is 1 miles.
There are 15 slopes and trails. The slopes are divided so that 30% are beginner slopes, 40% are intermediate, and 30% are advanced. There are no advanced expert, black double diamond, slopes. There are seven chair lifts and two surface lifts.
For those who prefer winter sports other than skiing or snowboarding, there is also a 7,000 square foot outdoor ice skating rink.
Both group and private lessons from beginning to advanced levels are available. Children's ski lessons are available for ages ranging from 3 to 14 and are grouped by age. Children's snowboarding lessons are also available for ages 8 to 14.

Follow route 184 north of Banner Elk to Beech Mountain. Route 184 can be reached from route 105 between Linville and Boone.
