Ski Bargain For Boston & RI Riders

Eastern Massachusetts and Providence Area Skiers Get Best Ski Deal

Dec 9, 2008 Stillman Rogers

Loon Mountain offers bus ride and lift ticket for only $3.95 more than the lift ticket alone. Skier pick-ups via luxury bus at Boston and Providence make skiing easy.

Best Ski Deal in New England

This has to be the best ski deal to come down the pike in decades. The good people at Loon Mountain, one of the finest ski areas in New Hampshire have revived the idea of making skiing accessible again. You don’t need a car even if you live in the greater Boston area or anywhere near Providence. You also don’t have to belong to any ski club, college, affinity group or any other type of organization.

Not since the ski trains of the 1940s and ‘50s has getting to the slopes been so easy. In those days trains from Boston and New York made regular trips to the ski mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont bringing with them hundreds of students and young adults eager to try out the new sport.

The sport is not new any longer but there are plenty of skiers and people who want to learn the sport but who find it hard to find a way to get from the city to the slopes, especially if there is no car readily available. Besides which, who wants to wear themselves into a tired bundle on the slopes all day and then have to get behind the wheel for hours?

Get to the Slopes Easy and Cheap

Loon’s solution is simple. They have hired a luxury motor coach (no, not a yellow school bus) to pick up skiers in Providence and Boston and bring them to Loon. Loon is located in Lincoln New Hampshire, just off I-93, but the ride from Providence and Boston can be a long one after a day in the fresh air.

Plans call for pick-ups to start at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston at 5:30 am, then the NEAS parking lot in Warwick, Brown University and then RISD. The bus then heads to Boston for stops at the MBTA parking lot on Grove Street, St Ignatius Church near BC in Chestnut Hill and then at Boston University before heading out to I-93 and the north country.

Leave All the Driving to Them

Yes, it is a long ride, but you don’t have to drive, can drop off for a snooze if you want and will have a full day on the slopes without the hassle of driving. If there is enough business there will be separate busses from each city. The bus will leave Loon after the slopes close, at 4:30, and will get you back to the city(s) in time for a night out – if you have any energy left.

The best part of this is the price. An all day ticket at Loon will run you $56. But listen to this. This deal includes the bus transportation and an all-day lift ticket are only $59.95 for Fridays and $69.95 on Sundays. That means that on Fridays you get a round trip to the mountain for $3.95! You couldn’t begin to buy gas for the trip at that price. If skiers want to spend the weekend they can ride up on Friday and return on Sunday but will have to arrange lodging themselves.

Beginning January 4, 2009

The service will start on January 4, 2009. Make reservations at www.skitrip.net or by calling New England Action Sports at (800) 477-SNOW (7669). You can also make the arrangements through Loon Mountain Resort at www.loonmtn.com .
