Vermont ski areas offer some sweet deals for skiers who plan to spend a lot of time on the slopes of one ski mountain. Skiers new to Vermont’s slopes may want to spend a winter trying several different mountains, so they can be ready in the spring to choose a single one for the following year’s money-saving pass.
Before you buy you have to decide whether you will use the pass often enough to make it pay. Calculate the number of times you think you will be able to get out onto the slopes. Then figure out what the cost would be at regular daily rates. With a pass you will probably get out more often because it won’t cost you any more. As a general rule, if you will get out 9 or 10 times you are probably better off with the pass.
With a pass you are usually committed to one mountain. Passes that include more than one mountain generally cost more money so it is a trade-off.
Vermont’s mountains are famed for the quality of the slopes and trails that they have to offer. Interstate 91 closely follows the Connecticut River all the way from Hartford and New England coastal skiers can get there via the Mass Pike, Route 2, to I-91 or via I-89 in New Hampshire to I-91. Here are a few offerings:
Starting in the north, Burke Mountain Resort offers senior and junior rates of $399 with adult passes at $599 but midweek passes are only $289 and the college student pass $219.
Known for its wide range of intermediate trails, Bromley Mountain Resort has a regular season pass at $995, but for $499 you can get the Off Peak Value Pass good Sunday through Friday (non-holiday) for $499 or a midweek pass (non-holiday) for only $299.
Down the road just a short way, Magic Mountain has deals for adult passes at $349, junior (7-12) and senior (70+) passes at $299. These prices are good until April 30, after that they rise by $50 in each category.
Stratton Mountain Resort is one of the biggest and best known. They have a Value Plus pass that includes admission to Okemo, Sunapee (in New Hampshire) and the Stratton Nordic Center (non holiday) for $549 pre-season and $699 at regular prices. Their own Value Pass from Stratton (including Nordic) has a spring price of $399, $599 regular and a midweek value pass for only $279 at the spring rate (regular price $399) and this one also includes Sunapee and Okemo. But the best deal is their Senior midweek pass (70+) for only $199.
These are but a few of the deals out there and most mountains now have their special rates available. Be sure to check them online. Some will have an April deadline, for others it may be as late as the end of May.
