Save time on the highway and gas in the tank when visiting these ski areas.

Colorado is home to many premier ski resorts that are deep in the Rocky Mountains. These resorts have beautiful views and great terrain, but are also long drives that can be dangerous on snowy weekends with heavy traffic conditions. However the resorts below are close to the Denver metro area, and offer a quality ski experience. All three also have a ski/ride school as well.

Colorado's Loveland Ski Area

Loveland is located about forty-five minutes west of Denver right on the Continental Divide before one drives through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70. The resort has 1,365 skiable acres, nine chair lifts, and a terrain park. It is open until May, with operating hours between 9 AM to 4 PM on weekdays, and 8:30 AM to 4 PM weekends and holidays 2008/2009 ticket prices include

  • An adult (15+) regular season ski pass for one day costs $56,
  • A child pass (6-14) runs $25.
  • A Flex Ticket for any four hours on the mountain is $42.

Boulder's Eldora Mountain Resort

Eldora is in Boulder County near the town of Nederland, CO. To get there, drive west from Boulder on Canyon Street, which becomes Highway 119. For those who don’t want to drive, there is bus service from Boulder to Eldora. Follow directional signs when arriving in Nederland. Eldora has 12 lifts with 680 acres of terrain. It also has a terrain park and a Nordic center which teaches cross-country skiing and telemark skiing. Eldora is open 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday, and 8:30 AM to 4 PM weekends and holidays. Ticket prices include:

  • An adult (16+) one-day ticket is $62.
  • A half-day adult ticket is $52.
  • A junior ticket (6-15) is $37.

Echo Mountain Park-Closest Ski Area to Denver

Echo Mountain advertises itself as, “Denver’s closest, cheapest, and freshest,” ski area. It is located west of Denver via Interstate 70, Evergreen Parkway, and Squaw Pass Road. It is smaller than many other resorts, but it has cheap tickets, a terrain park, and options such as twelve hours of skiing Wednesday through Saturday, Echo Mountain is open Monday, and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday from 9AM to 5 PM. They are closed on Tuesdays. Ticket prices include:

  • An all day adult ticket (14+) is $43.
  • An adult afternoon/evening ticket is $29.
  • A youth ticket (6-14) is $24.
