Spring Ski Resort Events: Rockies

Ski resorts stage springtime events nearly every weekend.

At ski resorts nationwide, warm weather and longer days add up to unending soft snow and non-stop skiing and snowboarding special events.

Ski resorts go balmy when the weather gets balmy, staging all kinds of wacky events an competitions that give skiers and snowboarders innovative and fun ways to have fun.

Looking around the Rocky Mountains in the U.S., here are some of the highlight ski resort events.

Colorado

Beaver Creek

  • Until April 8, Spring Apres concerts on the Beach at Broken Arrow
  • take place every Saturday and on select Sundays at 3:30 p.m. with live music, food, and large lounge chairs set around an outdoor fire pit.
  • Ongoing entertainment includes puppet shows, Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra, Arlo Gurthrie, the ballet Swan Lake, etc.
  • March 19, Ice Skating Show, on the Black Family Ice Rink and free to the public.
  • April 7, Easter Egg Hunt.

Vail

  • April 2-15, Spring Back to Vail Vail's huge end-of-the-season bash includes free concerts with headliner bands, unique competitions and the World Pond Skimming Championships.
  • April 7, Grammy nominated Reggae sensation, One World will be performing at Crossroads for free.

Breckenridge

  • April 1-22, Spring Massive Festival features concerts, competitions, celebrity racing, nightlife, exhibitions, jams, film shoots, and great spring ski/ride conditions. Among the events: Massive Shopping, April Fools Day Celebration, SnowActive Kids Weekend, Massive Beer Festival, Telemark Saturdays, Fiesta Latina, Massive Rail Jam, Massive Slopestyle, Massive Superpipe, Breckenridge Bump Buffet

Copper Mountain

  • March 21, En Fuego features a torchlight parade, street entertainers, a bon fire, fire performers, and a fireworks display.
  • March 17 & 24, Big Air Shows, performed by the Copper freeride team.
  • March 31-April 1, Sunsation Weekend #1 is the first of a three-part end-of-season bash with free live music from national acts, and many competitions.
  • April 7-8 Sunsation Weekend #2.
  • April 8, Colorado’s largest Easter egg hunt for more than 50,000 Easter Eggs. Guests can hunt for the "Copper Ticket" worth $500, other cash prizes, season passes, gift certificates and more. Separate hunts for kids and adults
  • April 14-15, Sunsation Weekend #3.

Winter Park

  • March 31-April 1, the Spring Blast Party features the first ever Dummy Downhill Race, live music, end-of-season blowout sales, and free bump and tele tips from the Winter Park Ski and Ride School. Register to win two roundtrip tickets from Frontier Airlines.
  • April 7, Spring Blast Family Weekend, has a carnival atmosphere including face painting, stilt walkers, jugglers, face painters, caricature artists and live music.
  • April 8, Golden Bunny Classic Candy Hunt and Fun Race, in which Winter Park Willie and the Easter Bunny deliver holiday fun with an on-mountain candy hunt in Discovery Park, as well as a base area egg hunt for children under 5. The "Bunny Race" has been an Easter tradition for more than 30 years for children ages 10 and under. And, there’s a Golden Bunny Coloring Contest, too.
  • April 15, Spring Blast Throw Back to the 80's gives folks yet another chance to win two roundtrip tickets from Frontier Airlines, and features the Spring Splash, the oldest tradition of its kind and on its 39th year in which skiers and riders struggle through an obstacle course and pond skim., including an old school ski and snowboard category. Live music, too.

Utah

The Canyons

  • March 19-23, Nickelodeon™ & The Canyons Family Winter Fest features Nick characters and family entertainment.
  • March 23, the Canyons Spring Concert Series is the final of three, free Friday concerts.
  • March 24, Pond Skimming Contest, a costume affair accompanied by live music.
  • April 8, Easter Egg Hunt.

Snowbird

  • Weekends, live music on the Plaza Deck
  • March 30-31, Snowcup, is America’s oldest ski race and a fund raiser party for the Snowbird Sport Education Foundation,
  • March 31 & April 7, Avalanche Beacon Hunt, like an Easter egg hunt, this contest features prizes in the third annual transceiver skills contest to promote self rescue techniques.Participants find avalanche beacons buried in a one-acre area.
  • April 8, Easter Egg Hunt.
  • April 13-15, North American Gelande Ski and Telemark Jumping Championships.
  • April 16, Annual Daredevil Dummy Downhill .
  • April 21-29, InSpring Festival, with a Slopestyle Amateur Competition, Superpipe, etc.

Wyoming

Jackson Hole

  • March 23-April 8, Jackson Hole Mountain Festival www.jacksonhole.com/jhmf/ features concerts, races, big air contests, the Annual Pole, Pedal, Paddle Race, costume competitions, Easter egg hunt, telemark fest, world championship snow mobile climb - the list goes on.

Idaho

Sun Valley

  • Thursdays until March 29, free snowshoe with a ranger.
  • March 7-28, Community Library: Ski Film Festival
  • March 24-April 14, New Ketchum Spring Jam Music Series, features free Saturday afternoon apres-ski street parties in Warm Springs Village with bands, food and fun.
  • April 1, Company of Fools April Fools Day Party, at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey, a free party for the whole family, featuring food from some of Hailey's finest restaurants, a foolish fortune teller, a poet's corner, face painting, tours of the Liberty, a dress up trunk for the little ones, a foolishly fabulous bake sale (proceeds go towards A Year With Frog and Toad tickets for the Head Start program), fun prizes and lots more.
  • April 7, Spring Prom, A dress-up (or not) affair to Rock ‘n Roll music from the 50's 60's and 70's!.
  • April 7, Sun Valley Telemark Series Hawaiian Nationals, the final event of the 2007 Sun Valley Telemark Series which is in its 27th consecutive year as the longest continuously run telemark series in the country.
  • April 8, Ride Stride Glide Relay Race at the Galena Lodge Nordic ski trails is a three leg (10K bike, 5K run, 10K skate ski) relay race for co-ed teams and solo competitors. The emphasis is on fun--costumes encouraged and awards given to the top three in all categories. Beverages and food served on the deck after the race

Schweitzer Mountain Resort

  • April 7, Spring Celebration, the finale to the season with a Rubber Duck Hunt for prizes, live music, snow bars and more.
